Getting to and from Murcia, Costa Calida, Spain

Are you about to book a trip to explore Murcia or planning a holiday at La Manga del Mar Menor, then the closest airport to these resorts is Murcia San Javier (MJV).

On average it takes between 2½ and 3 hours to fly to Murcia from the UK. There are five major airlines which operate from 16 UK airports into Murcia.  I have provided details below, but you may well find that during the peak summer months there are also some additional charter flights on offer.

bmiBaby - flys into Murcia from Birmingham International Airport
easyJet - operates flights out of Bristol, Gatwick and Newcastle Airports
You can fly with - from Belfast, Blackpool, Edinburgh, Leeds Bradford, Manchester and Newcastle
Monarch Airlines - flys from Gatwick and Manchester
And finally the budget airline Ryanair - flys to Murcia from Birmingham, Bournemouth, East Midlands, Glasgow Prestwick, Liverpool, Luton and Stansted Airports

If you are already in Spain then you can fly into Murcia from Palma de Mallorca with Air Berlin and from Madrid, Barcelona and Valencia with Iberia.

You can actually fly to Murcia from most Spanish airports if you are prepared to make one stop over.  For example in the Balearic Islands you can fly from Menorca, Palma and Ibiza with Iberia. From the Canary Islands Iberia flights operate from Lanzarote, Tenerife North, Tenerife Reina Sofia, Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura.

Air Berlin flies from Malaga and Seville and Alicante, Almeria, Valencia, Reus and Granada

If you are looking for the best possible deal when booking your flights to Murcia you will secure the lowest prices if you:

    1. are flexible with your travel dates and try to avoid flying at weekends.  Mid week flights tend to be much cheaper.
    2. make your reservation as far in advance as possible.  Long gone are the days when airlines offered cheap last minute deals and the prices tend to go up as you get closer to the date.
    3. shop around as you could find that it is cheaper to use different airlines for the outward and return journeys.

If you have problems getting a flight from your nearest airport into Murcia, then it is worth considering flying into Alicante Airport which is 135km away and takes about two hours to drive.

Finally when you arrive in Murcia the city centre is just over 40km from Murcia San Javier Airport and the resorts of La Manga and Mar Menor are less than an hour away.
